Hong Kong’s iconic typhoon shelters were once bustling communities of fishing families with its own unique subculture, including “floating kitchens” that served culinary delights fresh from the sea to hungry land dwellers. They were most famous for their typhoon shelter crab, which consists of flash fried crab infused with scallions, chilies, garlic, and fermented bean sauce. This dish has been a cherished favorite for many Hong Kongers and garnered the attention of tastebuds around the world.

Drawing inspiration from the traditional flavors of old Hong Kong and its roots as a fishing village, Holy Duck Chili Typhoon Shelter Sum Sum seasoning is our gastronomical representation of this special dish. The words 嬸嬸 [sum2 sum2], which is a homophone in Cantonese meaning “sprinkle sprinkle” or “auntie”, pays homage to the tough and mighty old ladies that work tirelessly at sea. A meticulous blend of over 20 natural ingredients is infused with duck fat over a fry wok to allow the flavors and aromas to fully mature and permeate into perfectly golden garlic and shallot crisps.
